Take Over

Details

In England squatting is unlawful but not illegal.

The legal system goes back to a law of the Fifteenth Century and even though the political actions to erode the “squatters’ rights” have been many, the famous Section Six can still be seen on the doors and windows of many English squats.

Take Over follows a group of Brighton squatters as they challenge conventional views on what it means to squat. This film tells the story of the squatters community during the spring and summer of 2008. It is the chronicle of the effort put into opening a social centre in an abandoned church, where a group of twenty squatters have been resisting the eviction order; and it tells the events of a temporary autonomous art exhibition and of direct actions against a weapon factory.

This documentary explores different realities where squatters are involved in constructing sustainable alternatives, and accounts for the ups and downs of this lifestyle choice.
